Research on associations. WBT Systems read through four recent research reports to discover what association execs and members are saying about the pandemic’s impact on associations, the future outlook, and their take of innovation—I especially liked those findings from Mary Byers.

Credentialing on the blockchain. Amith Nagarajan writes at Sidecar about the potential for associations to issue accreditations and certifications on the blockchain. This approach would provide “immutable evidence” of the credential and eliminate the possibility of fraud and the need for manual processing. Intriguing.

Association myths. Fíonta says it’s time to “abandon old assumptions, jettison conventional wisdom, and retire persistent myths.” I found myself saying “Yes!” repeatedly when reading this one. In some of these cases, technology and common sense can save the day and, in others, you might have to knock some sense into your board.

Virtual audience. Even after resuming public performances, some theater troupes plan to keep streaming their productions, reports Terry Teachout at the Wall Street Journal. They want to make their shows accessible to those who can’t attend in-person and expand their potential audience (and donor base). I hope associations see the potential in continuing to offer virtual events.

Marketing must-haves. Doug Kessler at Velocity Partners says three things matters most in B2B marketing right now: meaning, metrics and mojo. Meaning is relevance as defined by your target audience. Metrics are “your prospects and customers silently screaming to you about everything they’re into right now.” Mojo is your voice, your stance, and so much more, it’s a force multiplier.

Quick hits

  • When choosing marketing channels, visualize the curve. (Rand Fishkin, SparkToro)

Good eats

Skip down to the list of free webinars if you prefer takeout. If you’re a home cook, check out the weekly In The Kitchen posts on my Grabbing the Gusto blog.

  • Soft shell crab season is here! Oh, how I love these delectable creatures. I keep it simple—butter, lemon and parsley. Our veggie: greens, the usual Thursday/Friday side now that it’s CSA season. This time, the mix included kale, pac choi and radish greens sautéed with bacon, onion, red bell pepper, garlic and dried apricots. On the side, frozen tater tots.
  • The next night we had baked fillets of speckled sea trout with a topping of crushed pecans, Town House crackers, lemon zest, paprika, garlic powder, salt and melted butter. I brushed a thin coat of mayo on the fish so the topping would adhere. On the side, yellow squash, green beans and broccoli stem pesto with orange and yellow bell peppers, jalapeno, green onions and grape tomatoes.
  • I never want to discard starter when I feed it every two weeks, so I always find something to make. On Sunday, I tried a new whole wheat sourdough bread I like it! Easy as can be and perfect for my usual smoked salmon (with cream cheese and dill) breakfast and PB&Js for the times I have nothing else for breakfast or lunch.

Here are the educational events scheduled for next week. If you have a free webinar or event coming up, please send me the link before Wednesday evening the week before it’s scheduled. I’ll be happy to feature it as long as it’s not too product centric.
