Association Brain Food Weekly: 10.28.16

free webinars and learning events for the association community

Before we get to this week’s webinars and etcetera, how about some reading suggestions?

Roger C. Parker shares ten tips to help over-worked content marketers train their brain for greatness – they’re applicable to regular people too. He also reviews four books that “can open your eyes to the importance of neuro-plasticity and how you can intentionally take steps to increase your brain’s productivity.” Have you read any of them?

Reading a new post by John Hagel, I was reminded of the new role for associations I wrote about in How Associations Can Transform Higher Education. Hagel says there’s an unmet need for trusted talent advisors:

“…an overall orchestrator of specialized services, driven by a deep understanding of our overall needs and aspirations…[who would] connect us with a small community of people who are in a similar context and driven by similar passion so that we can learn faster by sharing our experiences, holding each other accountable and encouraging each other when unexpected obstacles arise.”

Could this be another role for associations?

I’m satisfied with my life but I’m also never satisfied with my life, do you know what I mean? I wade through a lot of self-improvement crap out there and only occasionally find a good nugget, like this article by Benjamin P. Hardy. The advice isn’t what you ordinarily see, so it’s worth some reflection.

Here’s what else I’m reading, never just one book, of course:

What are you reading?

Back to business: If you haven’t yet participated in the Tagoras 2016 Social Learning survey, please do. The survey will help the association community better understand how membership organizations use or don’t use social technologies to deliver learning. The size or budget of your association, and whether you use or don’t use social technologies, doesn’t matter.

Here’s the list of this week’s free webinars and learning events – only seven of them, quite a contrast to last week’s 21. If your company has a webinar scheduled in the next few weeks, please send me the link. I’ll be happy to feature it as long as it’s not too product-centric.
