Conference Circuit: Business Travelers, Traveling Together

Bolster your business-traveling prowess with a quick business trip of your own to a convention fit for a road warrior. Plus: a meeting of the (artificial) minds.

Many people in a range of industries have been business travelers at some point in their careers. With such a broad audience to pull from, it’s no surprise that this year’s Global Business Travel Association convention is such a big event.

Taking place July 26-30 in Los Angeles, the event is all about “Business in Motion.” For a sense of the scale of GBTA’s 2014 convention, just look at the list of companies that will be sending at least one representative. (A word of warning: You may be scrolling on that page for a while.)

The listing of events GBTA has planned is almost as extensive. Want to know the fundamentals of business travel management? You’re covered. What about tips on traveler safety, or a plethora of topics via exhibitor sessions? Done and done.

And for those interested in the view from Silicon Valley, Twitter cofounder Biz Stone will be a featured speaker, as will Google’s director of travel partnerships, David Pavelko.

Plus, for all you “House of Cards” aficionados, Kevin Spacey will be there—if you weren’t sold on the conference already. Registrations remain open for last-minute participants.

The Week Ahead

July 27-31: Chemists from across the world will congregate in Chicago next week for the American Association for Clinical Chemistry’s annual meeting and clinical lab expo. Beyond presentations on the latest research and practices in the field, more than 200 new-product introductions are anticipated.

July 27-31: A conference that one day just might develop a mind of its own will soon kick off in Quebec, when the city hosts the 28th annual conference of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence. The schedule of events features plenty of workshops, abstracts, tutorials, and exhibits.

July 29-August 1: A delicious event for delicatessen pros, the American Cheese Society’s meeting this year in Sacramento, California, is all about “Celebrating the American Cheese Plate.” The the rise of local, artisan cheese makers will be a focus.

Down the Line

August 8-10: The American Bar Association’s annual meeting in Boston is just two weeks away. The ABA is rolling out its new “MAGNITUDE360” event format, intended to offer attendees a “more streamlined and focused meeting, allowing more opportunity for you to attend events with fewer scheduling conflicts.” (Speaking of scheduling conflicts, the ASAE Annual Meeting & Exposition is taking place around the same time, August 9-12, in Nashville.)
