Another key point NATO’s Fithian made involved a recent trend by film studios to release movies in video-on-demand formats, one that drew attention due to last year’s last-ditch release of The Interview online. A smaller indie movie, It Follows , also provides ammunition for Fithian’s case—the horror film was expected to have a quick video-on-demand release, but success during a short box-office window led to a wide release.
