Conference Circuit: Western Economics

The Western Economic Association International’s 94th Annual Conference begins this weekend in San Francisco. Attendance is expected to top 2,300.

More than 2,300 academic, business, government, and research economists from around the world are headed to San Francisco this weekend to share their research, discuss industry trends, and get to know one another.

The 2019 WEAI conference begins on Friday afternoon with concurrent sessions, which will be followed by an evening welcome reception. Also on the agenda:

Data dive. Sunday morning’s keynote session will feature Raj Chetty, a Harvard University professor who specializes in the field of public economics. He’ll discuss how big data can be used to solve economic and social problems.

Career builder. Designed to help students prepare for the highly competitive job market, the Grad Student Workshop offers 16 selected Ph.D. candidates hands-on experience in job-market paper presentation skills and interview techniques.

Go cruisin’. Attendees have the option to embark on a sunset dinner cruise on Sunday evening. They’ll enjoy front-row views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, and the San Francisco skyline, while enjoying great food and good company.
