Best Benefit Ever: Authors Get Virtual Publishing Help

Author U provides support and resources to help members turn ideas into books.

What’s the benefit? Writing and publishing a book is complicated and lengthy, and often the process is only fully appreciated by fellow authors. That’s where Author U—a nonprofit community of authors, writers and publishers—comes in. Today the organization launched Author U Circles, phone seminars held on Mondays that focus on four major aspects of the creative and publishing process: writing, platform development and social media, book production, and marketing and sales. The sessions will be led by a facilitator and allow members to connect with peers in a similar stage of book production. “These monthly calls are designed to provide motivation, answers, and accountability,” Philippa Burgess, Author U speaker and membership benefit coordinator, said in a statement.

Why it works for members: The seminars offer specialized coaching and peer help and support. Writers who need to assess their social media strategy, for example, will work together to find solutions.

Other benefits: Author U members have access to an archive of virtual resources, including webinars, podcasts, and videos. Members can also take advantage of discounts on editing, graphic design, printing, shipping and other services.
