Association Brain Food Weekly: 4.28.17

Your weekly list of free webinars and events for the association community…

inspiration - learning events for association professionals

If you’re not heading to ASAE’s Marketing Membership & Communications Conference (aka MMC) next week, glom onto the hashtag #MMCCon like the rest of us and follow along on Twitter. Preconference sessions take place on Monday, May 1 followed by the conference on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Not a week goes by without some news about a new phishing attack. This time it’s a creepy one caused by some technical voodoo having to do with URL translation. Basically, it makes the URLs of malicious fraudulent sites look like the real McCoy. If you use Chrome, and you’ve recently updated it—this article tells you which version you should have—you’re okay. The rest of you, I can’t help. Read the article.

If you’ve been avoiding articles about digital transformation because you’re sick of anything ‘digital’ and you’re not quite sure what you’re in for—stop it. First, here are the basics on the what, why, and how of digital transformation, and then Mitch Joel’s take on the hard things about the hard thing called ‘digital transformation’—if you’re ready for that and, let’s face it, you have to be. He has an excellent podcast, by the way, if you’re into that kind of thing.

The association tech community is still bopping along to the latest news from Community Brands, and DelCor is keeping right up with their take on this week’s news about the acquisition of Nimble.

The promise of chat bots and smart home devices, like Alexa, completely intrigues me. I can imagine all kinds of ways associations can use this technology to enhance educational programs and member service. I keep meaning to write a blog post about that but you know how that goes. Check out this post about creating a chat strategy for your organization.

Enough of that, it’s time for next week’s learning events. If your organization has a webinar scheduled in the near future, please send me the link. I’ll be happy to feature it as long as it’s not too product-centric. Also, check out the webinars next week from the American Marketing Association:
