Strength in Numbers: Ngage Welcomes Growth & Opportunities

At its inception in 2013, Ngage Management was owned and solely operated by CEO Tobi Lyon. An entrepreneur by both nature and experience, Tobi knew that as her business and client base grew, so would the need for team support. Now serving numerous clients on state and national levels, and in an increasingly competitive marketplace, Ngage is growing its team significantly. And while this is in large part due to a demand to serve its client base successfully and creatively, for Tobi it is more than just getting bodies in the door.

“I am not looking to onboard employees for the sake of filling space,” she says. “For me, it has been and will always be about creating positions to attain appropriate, strong talent to constructively exceed the needs of our clients.”

Forever expanding its mission to deliver crafted solutions through collaboration, culture, and change, the Ngage team operates consistently with each of these ideas in mind. The reason Ngage can put its clients at the forefront of its mission is because of the team strategically created to serve them. The company facilitates strength finder assessment training for its employees and offers both time and resources (as well as encouragement) to those interested in pursuing educational trainings, certification, and volunteer opportunities.

In addition to its strategic interview process, and some good-old-fashion serendipitous networking, Ngage is positioned to welcome, attain, and further grow its extremely apt professionals. Once a position is created, Ngage works to establish camaraderie and processes across its teams, not just to effectively serve clients, but to build a bond and culture among its own staff that is focused on collaboration and results.

“When we create a new position, I remind that we refer back to our values,” says Tobi. “We consider if someone will understand the need for client stewardship and then identify their strengths. It seems simple, but it is where I have had the most success in terms of performance, recruitment and retention.”

The growth this type of approach allows for is corroborated by the numbers. In 2020, Ngage generated positive business growth by 311%, following a very successful growth rate of 242% in 2019. Ngage was also able to expand its staff by more than 169% in 2020. Since then, Ngage Management has seen a 36.5% increase in sales, and a 187% growth rate in new positions in 2021. The company created eight new positions in the last six months – growing its events, marketing and communications, and business development teams.

Each new employee brings a uniquely essential skillset to Ngage and serves as an extension of the diversly talented team of experts. As the team grows, so does the opportunity to define the company culture and create an enticing, dynamic work environment. Ngage considers onboarding the first step in a thorough process and has invested time and resources to the training and development of its staff.

“Building the Ngage team is all kind of by design,” says Tobi. “I want employees to feel supported and challenged by each other and to know that with our growth comes a huge opportunity for advancement.”

Its employees are a vital, integral part of everything Ngage does. Ngage’s entire brand and identity is focused on the abilities and strength of its team and as the company continues its rapid growth, so will the investment in the people and emphasis on employee development and relations. The team feels that what makes them attractive, both to prospective clients and candidates, is the passion among them and their dedication to their diverse clients and each other. Ngage Management is Michigan’s largest full-service association and event management company and plans to expand further beyond that.
