Each year, STEM associations and industry leaders gather to learn from each other and exchange ideas in a fun, driven, and collaborative environment. The ACCESSE Conference provides opportunities for associations and their partners to stay up to date on current trends and industry changes in order to continue to grow and succeed year after year. This year, Multiview had the pleasure of once again attending as a sponsor of the conference. While many inspiring and thought-provoking ideas were shared throughout the conference, there were a few that stood out.
AI is a must
As technology-based organizations, STEM associations can't afford to not be up to date on the latest technologies and trends. Furthermore, if they really want to show their value to industry professionals, implementing the latest advancements in any way they can will help them prove both their knowledge base and usefulness, making their members feel more at home and more willing to invest their time and money. That, of course, includes AI.
While there was a heavy focus on generative AI and image-generating programs for STEM education purposes, associations can take advantage of general AI programs more than they might realize. Considering these organizations generally have a smaller staff and tight budgets, AI should be seen as a welcome addition to associations’ toolboxes. AI can be used to maximize their efforts while reducing some of the workload of their existing staff, especially when it comes to mundane tasks, such as email and website updates. It offers the additional support they need without having to hire more people. When implemented efficiently, it may even allow these organizations to reach heights they hadn’t considered before by simply freeing up time and overall mental energy.
Demographics are shifting
The always-relevant topic of how to better engage members was certainly present, but it looked a little different this year. Conversations are shifting to focus on how to specifically engage and attract younger generations. While the wisdom and expertise of older members will always be of great value to associations, the younger members offer fresh new insights and add to the longevity of these organizations.
The good news is that STEM organizations are in a great position for attracting younger members. Each year, new STEM graduates are released into the workforce with a highly specific set of skills and goals. These young adults are seeking guidance and support in all areas, from finding careers to settling into competitive environments. As an association, you can offer a helping hand, as well as industry insights and connections they’ll need to keep pace with their seasoned peers.

Collaboration is key
One of the most encouraging takeaways from this year’s conference was seeing the strengthening of relationships between these organizations through their continued collaboration. With a niche industry, these associations have become a very close-knit group, pushing each other towards yearly success. The more they meet, network, and collaborate, the stronger they make the profession for everyone.
Furthermore, this collaboration and sense of community can easily be transferred to members within the associations. A welcoming and conversational environment leads to members feeling heard, seen, and more at home as active participants. A strong community also results in sustained membership and is more likely to inspire members to refer others to your association. Organizations that thrive on collaboration are a great testament to leading by example.
