Annual Giving Day Raises Over $2 Million for Palm Beach, Martin County Nonprofits

This year, 415 Palm Beach and Martin County nonprofits benefited from the generous support of donors who participated in the 2017 Great Give. This year, donors raised $2,062,328 through 8,719 gifts on Great Give Florida's website. Over the 24-hour period, nearly 24 percent of participating individuals made a first-time donation to an organization.

“We’re so humbled by the number of people who joined this movement,” said Alexia Savage, senior vice president of communications and resource development for the United Way of Palm Beach County. “Our communities are home to so many deserving organizations that do such important work day in and day out. The sheer generosity of local donors and their desire to do good for their neighbors is extremely inspiring.”

Great Give Palm Beach & Martin Counties is a 24-hour online giving event led by United Way of Palm Beach County, Achieve, Nonprofits First and United Way of Martin County. The United Way and its partners created this annual event to raise as much money as possible for local nonprofits in a single day and to help reduce the cost to acquire a new donor for local organizations. The 415 participating nonprofits represented industries like arts and culture, community development, education and youth development, environment, health and human services, animals and more.

“We were so grateful to have the opportunity to be part of something as inspirational as the Great Give,” said Clay Williams, CEO of Achieve. “The combination of local support and Achieve’s online giving day platform gives organizations a new method to not only acquire, but retain new donors for their organization.”

For local organizations facing uncertainty due to national policy changes, community-wide giving days like the Great Give provide a platform that nonprofits can use to inspire their constituents. In addition to online donations, cash and in-kind bonus prizes were awarded to participants throughout the 24-hour period.

“Great Give is an unprecedented partnership between four organizations that share a common vision: to help build vibrant communities,” said Josh Hirsch, director of digital and membership services at NonProfits First. “When passionate organizations and people come together, we’re able to greatly intensify our impact on the communities in which we live, love, work and play.”
