Astronomers Step Up Even before the controversy involving Geoff Marcy, the American Astronomical Society had begun to build a reputation as an organization that rejects sexual harassment. Jackie Speier (D-CA) criticized the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) for its treatment of sexism issues in its magazine Science.
