A nonprofit startup called inBloom, backed by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, was supposed to change the education landscape by embracing big data. But the organization, founded as the Shared Learning Collaborative in 2011 , ended up announcing its shutdown this week, after parents and educators raised privacy concerns.
