When I went to college, a middle class kid could afford a four-year liberal arts education. Not your typical classes, I know, but they’re life skills people need to develop personally and professionally. Supplement this curriculum with specialized classes that train people to enter an industry or profession.

Now some people - myself included - would argue that what is commonly referred to as a "traditional liberal arts education" (aka, studying impractical stuff like philosophy and literature) can, in the right circumstances, get you quite a long way towards acquiring skills like critical thinking and sense making and analysis and transdisciplinarity.
