I wrote a post a few weeks back on what I called paradoxes in association management , which I defined as counter-intuitive practices that we must embrace if we want to be successful. Here's one: Strategic agendas must create strategic boards before strategic boards can create strategic agendas. I've spoken to association executives who feel that this is the ultimate "chicken and egg" dilemma.

How Lonely are Your Members?

Many association members are directors, VP’s and CEO’s. At their company or organization, there is just one of them. Which means they are lonely. They are lonely in the professional sense. There is no one to benchmark against. There is no one to share best practices with. There is no one with which to feel a sense of collegiality. They are also lonely in the personal sense.
