Jerry’s book, Association Law Handbook , is in the Fifth Edition and it’s a great reference tool for association and non-profit lawyers. So, I can call my business “Alcorn Associates” and that name will be my trademark even though I have not registered the name with the USPTO or California Secretary of State (Yes, trademarks can be registered with the USPTO and most states). For example, one might generically refer to a cola as a “Coke.”
