The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) says its latest efforts, first reported on by Politico this week, are focused on creating a nationwide GMO labeling standard. The Environmental Working Group suggested that GMA’s proposed voluntary standard would limit future efforts to implement mandatory labeling at the state level.

Of the 1,500 such bills that have been introduced in the 12 months since, according to The New York Times , 109 have passed—with nearly two-thirds of the laws loosening restrictions, according to a graphic produced by the paper.
