Groups Concerned Pending Texas Bill Could Weaken LGBTQ Protections

ASAE Joins Tourism, Business Groups to Oppose Texas “Religious Refusal” Bill

The bill, which would allow state-licensed professionals to deny services based on a “sincerely held religious belief,” advanced out of the Senate State Affairs Committee March 25. “These include policies that explicitly or implicitly allow for the exclusion of LGBTQ people, or anyone else.”

Texas House Considers Discriminatory Bill Alternative

A Texas House committee held a hearing into the early Thursday morning hours on an amended version of House Bill 2899, which would prevent municipalities and school districts from establishing bathroom use policies. Abbott called the legislation a “thoughtful proposal” and said he would work with both chambers to pass the bill.
